Know Something Good Happening in the Valley? Help Us Tell the Story.

Some of the best local stories start with a small detail: a neighbor organizing a clothing drive, a business adding a useful service, or volunteers bringing a community gathering to life.

You may hear about these things before we do. If something good is happening in your corner of the Penobscot Valley, help us tell the story.

What makes a useful local story?

Start with what your neighbors need to know. What is happening? Who will it help? Why does it matter here?

A new business opening is a good example. Beyond the name, tell us what the business does, where it is located, when it opens, and what makes it useful to the community. A volunteer project might explain the need being addressed, what has already been accomplished, and how others can participate.

We welcome ideas about local businesses, community organizations, neighborhood projects, public events, and people making a difference. Your submission does not need to sound like a press release. A clear, friendly explanation is a good place to start.

For events, send the details people need to make plans

A great event description still needs the basics. Include:

  • The event name and organizer.
  • The date, start time, and end time.
  • The venue name, street address, and town.
  • The admission cost, including whether the event is free.
  • A direct registration or event-information link, when available.
  • Any registration deadline, age restriction, or other detail that affects attendance.
  • A contact person who can answer follow-up questions.

If advance tickets are required or space is limited, say so. If an event changes or is canceled after you submit it, please send an update.

A useful photo helps, too

A clear, real photograph can help readers understand the story. Send the original image when possible, along with a short caption identifying the people, place, or activity shown.

Please include the photographer’s name and confirm that you have permission for Penobscot Valley Voice to use the photo. For images featuring children, make sure the appropriate parent or guardian permission is in place. A photo found online is not automatically available for us to publish.

Give us time to follow up

Send your information as early as you can, especially for an event with a registration deadline. That gives us time to review the details and ask questions before the information is needed.

Please include your name and a reliable way to reach you. We may need to clarify a date, confirm a link, or learn a little more about the story.

Submitting an item does not guarantee publication. We consider local relevance, timing, available space, and how useful the information will be to readers. We may edit submissions for length and clarity.

Help your neighbors discover what is happening here

Penobscot Valley Voice connects readers with the people, businesses, events, and community efforts that make this region home. You do not need a big announcement to have something worth sharing.

If you receive the newsletter, reply to it with your story idea and the details above. And if a neighbor would find the newsletter useful, pass it along.

Your local story starts with a useful detail. Tell us yours.
